Psaltries CHOIR

The Official Choir of the Women in Byzantine Music Worldwide Association “Psaltries” was established in Greece on December 2017, four years after the Association was established by Nektaria Karantzi, the prominent Greek vocalist of the sacred music who is acclaimed as one of the most important female voices in byzantine chant worldwide.

The Psaltries Choir specializes and is devoted to the dissemination and study of Byzantine chanting, highlighting the beauty of the female approach to Byzantine Hymns.
The majority of the choir consists of graduate chanters, students of Byzantine music, and seasoned chanters.

The Psaltries Choir has carried out a series of selected and significant appearances. Below are some examples of their concerts and participations:

- the choir took part in the series of talks "5+1 Words with music", entitled "God and Music" by Vassilis Tsabropoulos, the internationally renowned pianist, composer, conductor and artistic director of the Athens Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, which was sponsored by His Eminence Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece Mr. Ieronymos.
- they took part in an event with the leading traditional performer Chronis Aidonides.
- they participated in concerts held by the Holy Trinity Church of St. Petersburg and the Holy Church of St. Athanasios Polydrosou.
- they participated in a series of sacred services at St. Athanasios Polydrosou with Father Lambro Andreakis and the Church of St. Barbara Egaleo, following the honorary invitation of His Grace Bishop of Fanari Mr. Agathangelos, on the occasion of the reception of the icon of Our Lady of Tikhvin.
- they performed a Byzantine Music concert in the presence of His Eminence Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece Mr. Ieronymos.
- they accompanied the opening ceremony of the Congress of the Greek Biblical Company, by invitation and in the presence of His Excellency of Dimitriados and Almyrou, Mr. Ignatius.
- they participated in the ERT television program "The Courtyard of Colors" with Athena Kampakoglou - a tribute to Nektaria Karantzi.
- they are currently preparing for 2020-2021 performances which will be held in Poland and Malta.

Rehearsals are held regularly in Athens at the cultural centre of Saint Athanasiou Polydrosou.

Since the beginning of 2020, a branch of the Psaltries Choir was established in Thessaloniki, where regular rehearsals and classes are also held under the direction of Nektaria Karantzis and, coordinated by Isidora Papakyridou-Faka.

Abroad, vocal ensembles operate as branches of the Psalters Choir, with the coordination of the respective local artistic representatives of our Association.

All members of the Psaltries Choir, both in Greece and abroad, can make daily contact, exchange information, educational materials, and practice materials from rehearsals through the official social media platform of our Association.
